Welcome to my blog, and thank you for stopping by. I hope you find it informative, and if there is anything I have missed or you would like me to talk about please drop me a line of suggestion. After seeing a nutritional therapist I decided from the improvement of my own health that I would like to be there in the same way for others, therefore, I studied two degrees; one in Nutritional Therapy and another in Bioscience Nutrition so that i could be equipped to support a number of health conditions. I now work for a supplement company on a clinical team supporting practitioners and keeping upto date with all new scientific information and provide private consultations too aswel as keeping my blog going :)

Skinny Minnie for your travels

Skinny Minnie for your Travels
Holiday season is here and we all want to be nice and trim for that sassy holiday bikini we have been planning to wear. Therefore, today you have some easy peasy weightloss tips to get you started
·         Small snacks every 3-4 hours have a portion no bigger than your two fists put together, this reduces cravings which can lead to over eating and having sugary food choices.
·         Protein with everything you eat. Examples would be meat, fish, eggs and humus.  By having protein you slow the release of sugar from the food into bloodstream to keep you fuller for longer.
·         No ‘low fat’ ‘diet’ foods, nature knows best, only ever choose foods that you could imagine surviving in nature. These foods are easy for your body to process. Diet foods tend to be full of ingredients that confuse your body and therefore ironically end up stored as fat.
·         Garcinia Cambogia is an Indonesian fruit that contains Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) which has been shown to supress the appetite and encourage the metabolism, therefore, this may be a nice boosting supplement if you are reaching a plateauing affect with your weightloss.

Recipe
Below is a scrumptious guilt free weightloss snack smoothie to get you on your way to wearing that sassy holiday bikini; it shall keep you fuller for longer, light, contains protein and antioxidants to support weightloss.

The very berry smoothie:
Ingredients
100g Silken Tofu
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
100g blueberries
100g raspberries
200ml of crushed ice
Place the ingredients in the blender, blend and voila you have your smoothie.

Travel health, avoiding the travel bug

Travel Bug
Holiday times are ahead, the sun is out and we all have the travelling bug, but make sure that is the only bug you get this summer. Here are a few holiday tips to keep you prepared for sea, sun and summer fun.

Don’t get bogged down with a tummy upset
Travelling abroad and eating out can mean that you are exposed to pathogens in foods.
Poor food hygiene or simply being exposed to bugs that your gut isn’t used to can result in unwanted tummy upsets. This is especially common in hot countries as heat provides perfect conditions for bacteria to breed.
Aeroplane and Palm Trees

Ice in drinks
Ice in drinks is easily forgotten. Often made from tap water, the ice often carries a number of foreign bugs. Make sure you always request no ice unless you are in a country where you know the water is safe for you to drink.

Fruit and vegetables
Peel all fruit and vegetables to remove surface bacteria that may remain on the skin from being washed with tap water.

Natural foods to support the gut
Garlic
Garlic, cinnamon and oregano have traditionally been used to prevent food spoilage and to support gut health.
Add these condiments to meals on a day to day basis. Garlic is most effective when crushed and fresh, but can smell quite strong! Cloves are great breath fresheners to take away the garlic aroma almost instantaneously.

Don’t forget to take friendly bacteria on holiday
The friendly bacteria in your gut, known as probiotics, are especially helpful during holiday time. Start taking a probiotic supplement two weeks before your travels and make sure it is a well researched brand and proven to be safe. It is even more effective to combine probiotics with plant oils which help to support digestive health, such as oregano.

What to do if you do get a funny tummy:
Even after following all of this advice you may sometimes get caught out. This may be due to food not agreeing with you, changes in dietary habits, drinking contaminated water or a change in climate and routine.

What is soothing on the outside can soothe on the inside:
Keep aloe vera and slippery elm in your emergency box, they are great for soothing sunburn. Aloe vera may have immune supportive properties whilst slippery elm is also soothing for the digestive tract.
